Artist Statement: My love of textiles started in childhood. Always the creative person, my mother made most of my clothes. I adored spending hours in fabric stores touching the bolts of fabric, imagining. As an adult, I sold wholesale fabrics to interior designers. Each season, we would receive yards and yards of luxurious silks, velvets, and brocades for displays. Seeing all the long lengths of pattern and color gave me such pleasure. Seeing them hung on the wall gave me an idea. What if I viewed painted rolls of polyester film like bolts of fabric? What if I created my own version of stripes, patterns, and nature that I could mix and match? How would the completed paintings look? Could I create my own world? Gilded Pear Gallery opened their doors for an exhibit of Mary Zeran's latest collage and collage paintings. The show runs from December 4th, through January 21st.
